Climate science goes back a long ways

The history of climate change research dates back to the 19th century when scientists first started studying the Earth’s atmosphere and temperature patterns.

In the late 1800s, Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius first proposed the idea that changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels could result in global warming.
In the mid-20th century, the advent of reliable temperature records and improved computer models led to an increased understanding of the role of greenhouse gases in regulating the Earth’s temperature.
In the 1980s and 1990s, there was a growing body of evidence indicating that human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, were significantly increasing atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, leading to global warming.
