The Global Crude Oil Refining Industry

Global refinery distillation capacity is expected to continue to grow, with utilization in Asia and North America expected to remain healthy.

Global refining capacity in 2019 grew 1.5 million barrels per day (b/d) to 101 million b/d total.  Growth was driven by new additions in China (540,000 b/d), the Middle East (310,000 b/d) and the United States (U.S.) (210,000 b/d).

The largest refinery in the world is the Jamnagar Refinery in India with an aggregate capacity of 1.24 million b/d.

The two largest refining companies in the world, which combined have 10.6% of the global refining capacity, are in China.

Abbreviations
